Applications Open: Victorian International Student Emergency Relief Fund

Attention all international students in Victoria, applications are now open for the Victorian government's International Student Emergency Relief Fund. Payments of $200 - $1,100 will be made to eligible students.


Due to the high demand, it is recommended that all eligible students apply as soon as possible before the allocated funds run out.


 

Background

The Victorian government recently announced a $45 million International Student Emergency Relief Fund. The fund aims to provide one-time payments to assist international students going through financial hardships due to coronavirus.


When do applications close?

According to the website: "The funding is available until the end of 2020 or until funding is exhausted. Given the high number of expressions of interest received since the announcement of the Fund, we recommend you submit an application as soon as possible."

There are two streams:

  • Stream One: Designed for international students in Victoria attending a public university or TAFE. Please visit this link for more information on how to apply.

  • Stream Two: Designed for international students in Victoria attending a private education provider or college. Please visit this link for more information on how to apply.


In addition to the relief fund, the Victorian Government is also supporting international students by providing:

  • Rent Relief: One-time payments for people for people struggling to make ends meet and pay rent due to coronavirus.

  • Job opportunities: Working For Victoria to assist in looking for job opportunities

  • Support Hub: Study Melbourne Support Hub provides many different resources for international students such as being and mental health

  • Legal Advice: Entitlement to legal advice regarding work rights and accommodation
