[NEWS] QLD Opens Interim Nomination Program for 1 Week

With the federal budget coming up this coming Tuesday on 6th of October, the states are slowly releasing some of their nomination allocations. Queensland has opened their interim program slots for a limited time of 1 week from 29th of September till 5th of October 2020.

What occupations are on the interim list? What does this mean for you?

Along with some business visas and some skilled visas, occupations on the “Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List” are eligible for the interim program. Here’s everything you need to know about the program and what you your options are.

Important Note:

Considering the program has limited nomination allocations and the limited processing time, only new EOIs lodged from 29th September 2020 will be considered. If you’re one of the lucky applicants who does secure an invite, you must lodge a decision-ready application and provide all supporting documents within 24 hours of receiving the invitation.

Who can apply?

Business program (for onshore and offshore applicants):

  • applications of high-quality related to COVID-19 recovery or

  • businesses focused on creating jobs or productive focus or

  • regional investment focus within the business program

Visas to receive priority processing:

  1. 132 – Significant Business History stream

  2. 188 – streams include Business Innovation, Significant Investor and Entrepreneur

Skilled program (onshore applicants only):

  • occupations in the medical services or

  • maintaining supply of essential goods and services or

  • delivering services in sectors critical to Australia’s economic recovery

Visas to receive priority processing:

  1. 491 – small business owners’ pathway and applicants who’ve worked in their nominated occupation in regional QLD for at least 3 months and have a job offer for 12 months

  2. 190 – applicants who’ve worked in their nominated occupation in QLD for at least 6 months and have a 12 moth job offer

After lodging your EOI, you must send an email explaining how you will meet the Department of Home Affairs ‘critical skills and sectors’ direction.

“I’m interested in state nomination for QLD, but I don’t meet this criteria. What are my options?”

For other hopeful applicants of QLD’s state nomination program, it is expected the state will open up the nomination program after the federal budget is announced. Fortunately, the wait for that is not too long!
